Location: Helios headquarters corridor

Marion: Are Ren and I similar?
Jack: What’s this all of a sudden, Marion?
Marion: When I went on patrol today, some fans went to talk to me.
I gave them autographs and handshakes as usual, and was about to resume my patrol when… to my surprise, I saw these fans looking and talking about Ren…
They were saying things like: “Could this kid be a rookie?”, “I wanna support him… Plus he kinda reminds me of Marion.”.
Jack: Jack sees… Jack gets what you’re saying, but Jack is a machine, so…
Marion: …Well then, what do you think Jack?
Are Ren and I that alike?
Jack: Hmm… Who knows? Anyway Marion, are you not asking this with the hope Jack will deny it?
Marion: Of course I am.
I’m a unique being after all. It’s not just Ren, the mere thought of being told I’m similar to someone else is extremely upsetting to me.
Jack: Jack sees…
Jacqueline: I wonder about that, nano~
Marion: Jacqueline… Weren’t you busy drawing a picture in my room?
Jacqueline: I’ve already finished it, nano. Jacqueline was so proud of the Victor-chama portrait that she placed it on your desk, nano~♪
Marion: Sorry, but I’ll be returning it to you later.
Also, Jacqueline, I was having an important conversation with Jack right now.
Jacqueline: Ah, you mean the one about how you and Ren-chama are similar to each other?
Jacqueline knows. It’s because Marion-chama is like Ren-chama that he’s so concerned about it.
Jack: By the way, Gast has said something about it too, about how Marion is super strict when it comes to Ren…
Jack has had a similar impression when watching the two of you. Marion is harsh in general, but it feels like he is especially cold to Ren for some reason?
Marion: T-that’s…
Jacqueline: When Marion-chama is talking with Ren, he’s like an overly strict female senpai, nano~*
Marion: …What?
Jacqueline: These days, Jacqueline, Jack and Papa have been watching Japanese dramas together. In one, there’s a character who acts like that…
She’s super mean to the newbies at her work! A real meanie, nano!
Jack: Oh, you mean that drama… Jack will try to find fitting quotes from the series…
‘Hey now, could you stop standing there doing nothing and get to work? Also, stop staring at me like that!’
‘I don’t care about the reason, just don’t come and ask me stuff. You should at least be able to know what you’re supposed to do with that small brain of yours, right?’
Jacqueline: Jack, that was so cool, nano! Please do it more, nano~♪
Marion: No, please stop…
I don’t know about that senior worker business, but I want to make it clear that it’s not my intent to bully Ren. Going back on topic, it was just that a few times when I was upset, I ended up taking it out on him.
Be it Ren or someone else, I just don’t want to acknowledge that someone can compare to me.
Jack: Hmm… Your attitudes are kind of similar, but if it is weighing on you that much, it would be best if you checked with your own eyes.
As far as Jack knows, you are not that familiar with Ren, correct? If so, that is all the more reason to do it, in Jack’s opinion.
Marion: …
Location: Gast and Ren’s room

Gast: Hey, Ren. Please be nice and wake up… I’m starting to run out of ideas here~
Marion: What are you doing?
Gast: Woah, Marion!? D-didn’t expect to see you there… Why the sudden visit?
Marion: I asked first, tell me what you’re doing.
Gast: …I-I’m waking up Ren. He’s not a morning person at all so it’s always an adventure…
Ren: Zzz… Zzz…
Marion: Is it always like this?
Gast: Yeah. I come up with new ways to wake him up every day but I feel like one of these days I’m gonna be at a loss. You came in at a good time, do you think you could help?
Marion: I got what I came here for, I’ll leave now.
Gast: Huh!? W-wait, Marion…
Location: Blue North

Ren: …
…
…Alright.
Marion: Hey, wait a minute.
Ren: …?
Marion: What’s up with that face? Is it that surprising that I’m the one initiating a conversation?
Ren: It is. Ever since I became a hero, I don’t remember us having a conversation.
Marion: But that’s not just limited to me, right? You’re a loner who doesn’t really interact with others.
Ren: …I’ll admit to that but you’re not a lot more social than I am.
Marion: Well, fine. That aside, you’re lost right now, aren’t you?
Ren: …!
Marion: You’ve got a horrible sense of direction, correct? On top of that, you’re unable to wake up on your own in the morning…
(He really has nothing in common with me after all. I don’t have childish flaws like that.)
Ren: I-I don’t understand. Why are you talking about this all of a sudden…
Marion: There’s another distinctive difference between us. I may be a genius, but I have to admit you truly are a hard worker.
Ren: …?
Marion: You don’t content yourself with exercising during training, you also do it in your free time.
The time you spend training must be twice as much as Gast’s… no, maybe three times as much. Though to be fair he’s pretty lazy to begin with…
Plus you spend an enormous amount of time reading. You often go to the library to borrow books and spend night after night reading them, hm?
Ren: How do you know th…
Marion: I’m recognizing your accumulated efforts. It also means you’re a hard worker, not a prodigy.
According to me, who was blessed with talent from birth, we live in two different worlds.
Ren: …That’s sarcasm, right?
I’ve always thought you were creepy but what’s up with you today? I don’t get it…
Marion: Don’t misunderstand. I didn’t have any particular intent saying this. I just wanted to show proof for my thoughts.
And now that’s settled. I don’t have any more business with you, act as you like from now on.
(I’ll report back to Jack and the others when I get back. I’ll be able to say with confidence that I’m a unique being after all.)
*Here Jacqueline uses the word ‘Otsubonesama’(オツボネサ マ/お局様), meaning a more experienced female worker who’s too harsh on her juniors in a working setting.
